I went surfing yesterday afternoon for the first time in something like 7 years and I actually got up on the board, (TWICE!!) for almost a full second each time. It helped that the board I was riding was 10 feet long and 3 feet wide and made almost entirely of foam.... Here's a picture to help you get a better idea.
