Still processing Burning Man... I still wake up every morning thinking I'm there and it takes me about 20 seconds to realize that I'm in my own bed and I get sad briefly... but then I buck up and jump up to get ready for work. Anyway... thoughts and images still to come.
As for today, this story from CNN about Southern Women turning their back on Bush made me realize something -- as much as it pains me to say it. Bush HAD to win in 2004. That's right. As much damage as he's doing, as awful a President as he's being, it's the only way to get us lefties and righties together again.
If John Kerry had won the election, Iraq would have become his fiasco, and although we'd likely have a better standing in the world at the moment... and we'd likely not be torturing... and we'd likely at least respect our Commander-In-Chief for his foresight and intelligence, you can bet that the Rovians would be 'Slick Willy-ing'/Swift-Boating him 24/7 and the finger-pointing polarization between the right and the left would be at an all-time high.
As it is now, (with the exception of the minority of religious fundamentalist die-hard Bushies who'll never turn away from him) I feel that we're all coming together as a country -- united by the bond of a common enemy who is hell-bent on destroying us... only this time it's not Bin Laden.
when i see people start scraping their "w" stickers off of their car, or, on the other hand doing something other than sticking clever bumper stickers on their car, i'll believe it that things are changing.
